This Page is for Disastershock Research Team Interviewers participating in the Survey on Ways of Coping with the Covid 19 Pandemic
Here are two sample interviews that illustrate how Interviewers should conduct the interview. In the first demonstration interview, Dr. Ilene Rusk interviews Dr. Emilia Suviala. In the second interview, Dr. Emilia Suviala interviews Dr. Jackie Shinefield. Please note that when writing down the interviewee's name, use only a code name for confidentiality.
When conducting the interview it is important to write down the interviewee's responses to the open-ended (the first 3) questions. You need not write down every word, but be sure to record the main points being made by the interviewee and read them back to the interviewee to check for accuracy.

INTERVIEWER STEPS FOR CONDUCTING SURVEY
STEP 1: Identify 6 persons who you think might be willing to participate in the Survey. Try to have some diversity in your selection in terms of variables such as age, gender, living alone or with others, etc.
STEP 2: Describe the study to each and provide them with a copy of the Survey and the Consent Form (which contains a description of the study). They can also download these from this website. Answer questions that anyone might have. Emphasize that their responses will be confidential and their identity known only to you. No information will be used that could identify them.
STEP 3: For persons agreeing to participate in the study, have them initial the Consent Form and send it to you.
STEP 4: Arrange a time to interview each person (interviews take about 20-30 minutes). The interviews may be in person (practicing safe distancing and mask wearing as necessary), on the phone, or on the internet (e.g. zoom).
STEP 5: When conducting the interview it is important to write down the interviewee's responses to the open-ended (the first 3) questions. You need not write every word, but be sure to record the main points being made by the interviewee. Read back to your interviewee what you have written for each response to Questions 1 to 3 in order to ensure that what you wrote is accurate. Make any changes in wording necessary. What you write down need not be word for word, but must accurately reflect the meaning of what the interviewee said.
STEP 6: Prepare a file containing the surveys for your 5 interviewees and their Consent Forms by scanning them and uploading as a pdf file. Send these files by January 1, 2020 as an email attachment to:
Dr. Olufunke Adegoke
If you have any questions about conducting the survey, please email Dr. Brian Gerrard ().
